Research Summary

My research focuses on defining the genetic origin of cancers of the blood and using that as a paradigm for understanding development. We have employed genetic mapping, positional cloning, and, more recently, next-generation DNA sequencing to discover and investigate the action of genes whose germline mutations cause bone marrow failure and leukemia. In related work, our laboratory has developed a new approach for extracting cell lineage from genome and transcriptome sequence data.
