Research Summary

Hematopoietic stem cells have extraordinary regenerative capacity and are used clinically to treat patients with blood cancers and immune disorders and to supplement the treatment of patients with solid tumors. In the Termini Lab, we assess the intrinsic and extrinsic properties that mediate hematopoietic cell function during homeostasis and following stresses, such as radiation, chemotherapy, cell transplant, and malignancies. We take a multi-scale approach in the Termini Lab by testing stem cell function at the chemical, molecular, cellular, microenvironmental and organismal scale.

DEI Statement

As a female Hispanic first-generation college graduate, my experiences provided me with unique first-hand insight of the academic process as a scientist from groups historically excluded from research environments. While several studies have demonstrated the value of diversity in promoting scientific discovery and creativity, I believe inclusion and equity are basic rights that should be at the forefront of the scientific experience. My goal as a faculty member is to provide dedicated, intentional, and consistent inclusion efforts in all realms of my work.
