Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

My own experiences and career trajectory have shaped my view on the importance of promoting diversity in science. I have a strong desire to promote the advancement of individuals that are underrepresented in science, and to this end I have sought out opportunities to mentor underrepresented trainees at all levels of my career. I plan to recruit lab members from a range of backgrounds in order to facilitate a lab environment that adequately represents the diversity of humanity. When recruiting, I will seek out individuals from underrepresented groups and support their journey in science. I would like to be a mentor, rather than a boss, to the people who work in my lab or take my classes. I will strive to build and maintain an inclusive environment in which our members support and feel supported by each other both professionally and personally. I believe a sense of inclusivity will help my lab members learn and grow as scientists and leaders.
