Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

I acknowledge the societal privilege that I possess as a cisgender heterosexual white male, which has unquestionably broadened my professional opportunities. I strive to invest and redirect my privilege to promote core DEI concepts in my professional and personal life. My priorities are to i) recognize and empower an individual’s drive for social betterment within the framework of a top-tier research laboratory, ii) establish a work environment that is equally open and supportive, and iii) support my lab members through joint learning, listening, and growth. My essential responsibility as a lab leader is to participate in individuals’ unique paths to flourish and excel as independent scientists and thinkers. I will continue my DEI efforts to help scientists at all career stages, with a particular focus on those from underrepresented backgrounds. I believe that every one of us has multiple blind spots, and by surrounding ourselves with a talented, diverse, and motivated work force, we will be enriched both as scientists and human beings.
