Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

I became a faculty in part to contribute to making higher education more diverse and inclusive. Likely of most interest to someone reading this MCB faculty page, I seek to learn and apply skills to recruit and support diverse students in my research lab. I participate in programs that seek to provide research opportunities to students who may not otherwise have such opportunities, am transparent about expectations in the lab, use a growth mindset when mentoring, and embrace the trainees as a whole person, not just a researcher. I also offer to discuss the intersection of any identity(s) and career goals, and/or to connect trainees to someone in my network who can provide culturally aware and/or career mentoring.
