Research Summary

HIV evades immunity and anti-viral drugs through rapid sequence evolution. HIV’s most rapidly evolving protein is its envelope (Env). I have used deep mutational scanning to experimentally estimate the effects of all amino-acid mutations to Env. I am using the results to determine how site-to-site variation in Env’s mutational tolerance shapes patterns of sequence conservation in nature.
