My research is aimed at understanding how thyroid hormone regulates the differentiation and morphogenesis of neural crest-derived zebrafish pigment cells. Endocrine factors are important for coordinating differentiation and morphogenesis of numerous stem cell-derived lineages during post-embryonic development and later adult homeostasis. Interestingly, different pigment cell lineages have markedly different responses to thyroid hormone signaling. I am using single-cell genomics and developmental genetics to study the role of thyroid hormone in the pigment cells and their progenitors.
