Research Summary

We are focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying the production and spread of pathogenic protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Parkinson’s disease. We use both Drosophila and cultured neurons and glia derived from induced pluripotent stem cells from patients to understand mechanisms leading to neurodegeneration that could be targeted for novel disease-modifying therapies.

I attended a small women’s liberal arts college, where individuality was embraced and viewed as an asset to the community. I believe that mentoring individuals with diverse experiences and backgrounds is essential to improving diversity in science, promoting a supportive and inclusive culture and enriching the scientific community as a whole.
